DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision within the Jokerst Group in the Aiiso Yufeng Li Family Department of Chemical and Nano Engineering at UC San Diego, the research technician will use imaging to monitor and predict disease. The research will involve using ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging of human subjects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. degree or higher in biomedical engineering, chemistry, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Working knowledge of medical and scientific terminology.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in our highly collaborative team environment

  • A strong work ethic and desire to perform world-class research, author journal articles, present research at scientific conferences, and improve public health.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively and diplomatically at all organizational levels, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to work professionally and effectively with a diverse population, including academicians, staff, and students.

  • Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal supervision.

  • Good judgment to know when to ask for assistance from supervisor in cases where regulations, policies and procedures are not clear.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Research experience in light-tissue interactions, optics, and/or spectroscopy.
  • Experience with in vivo optical imaging and image processing.
  • An academic background that includes coursework in chemistry, biophotonics and medical imaging.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to travel for work.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Chemical and Nano Engineering (http://cne.ucsd.edu), which administers the NanoEngineering and Chemical Engineering undergraduate and graduate degree programs for the Jacobs School of Engineering, invites applications for temporary, non-tenure track lecturers (Unit 18). Courses may include undergraduate lower- and upper-division courses in the areas of Chemical Engineering, Physical Properties of Materials and Mechanical Behavior of Materials.

Possible job responsibilities include: course instruction; course development and preparation; student support, collaboration with faculty, professional development, advising and mentoring.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD in Chemical or NanoEngineering or a related field

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Minimum of one quarter or semester teaching one or more courses in Chemical or NanoEngineering at the undergraduate or graduate level, either as Instructor of Record or as a Teaching Assistant or equivalent industry experience such as a minimum presenting one or more seminars, or conducting one or more trainings

Preferred qualifications

1 - 2 years laboratory experience in related industry
