Postdoctoral Position Open

A postdoctoral position in the Department of NanoEngineering at UCSD is available. Research will be focused on the development of novel nanofiberoptic sensing platforms for biomaterial systems. Applicants should have experience in one or more of the following areas.

  1. Laser spectroscopy/imaging of nanostructures
  2. Chemical modification and characterization of semiconductor surfaces
  3. Fiber optics
  4. AFM instrumentation and analysis
  5. Biosensors

Assistant Project Scientist – NanoEngineering

The Department of NanoEngineering (http://ne.ucsd.edu), which uses the unique and enabling aspects of a nanoscale material to create a device to be utilized by mankind in the Jacobs School of Engineering at UCSD, invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Project Scientist position.

Candidates must have earned their Ph.D. degree in materials science, chemical engineering or a related area. Successful candidates should have experience in research, development and manufacturing for electrochemical energy storage and conversion technologies, especially in:

1. electrode materials (including Mn/Ni-rich layered, spinel structure) synthesis through solid-state, co-precipitation, and hydro-thermal methods;

2. materials degradation diagnosis through multiple advanced characterizations such

as Cryo-TEM, STEM/EELS, transmission X-ray microscopy, Plasma FIB, etc.;

3. application of first-principles calculation to the discovery and design of functional materials for energy storage;

4. funding proposal writing, and research program review.

Temporary Lecturer (Unit 18) AY20-21 - Chemical and NanoEngineering

The Department of NanoEngineering, which administers the NanoEngineering and Chemical Engineering undergraduate and graduate degree programs for the Jacobs School of Engineering, invites applications for temporary, non-tenure track lecturers (Unit 18). The initial appointment may be for a period of up to two (2) academic years.

Courses may include undergraduate lower- and upper-division lecturers in the areas of Physical Properties of Materials and Mechanical Behavior of Materials. The full list of courses offered by the Department of NanoEngineering can be found in the online course catalogue

Candidate must have a Master's degree or higher in fields related to Engineering. Candidates should have expertise in undergraduate and graduate education in Chemical Engineering and/or NanoEngineering, and can provide evidence of effective and innovative teaching.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in NanoEngineering, Chemical Engineering or similar advanced graduate degree, with experience in laboratory work related to those fields.
