Professors Jian Luo and Ken Vecchio, and NE affiliates awarded the 2022 Journal of the European Ceramics Society Best Paper Award

Congrats to Professors Jian Luo and Ken Vecchio, and our NE affiliates for being awarded the 2022 Journal of the European Ceramics Society Best Paper Award.

The 2022 Journal of the European Ceramics Society Best Paper Award is awarded to the paper:
M. Qin, J. Gild, C. Hu, H. Wang, M. S. B. Hoque, J. L. Braun, T.J. Harrington, P. E. Hopkins, S. Vecchio, J. Luo*, “Dual-Phase High-Entropy Ultrahigh Temperature Ceramics,” Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 40, 5037-5050 (2020).

The first author, Mingde Qin, was a Ph.D. student in Materials Science & Engineering working in the NanoEngineering department (in the Luo group), who graduated in December 2020 and subsequently did postdoctoral research in both Luo and Vecchio’s groups in our NanoEngineering department and just departed for an industrial job this month. He was invited to go to Krakow, Poland in July 2022 to receive this award at the European Ceramic Society Honors and Awards Session that will be held during the XVII European Ceramic Society Conference (with the trip paid by the JECS Trust).

Joshua Gild (now at the Naval Research Laboratory) and Chongze Hu (now at the Sandia National Laboratory) were both Ph.D. students working in the Luo group, and Haoren Wang and Tyler Harrington were Ph.D. students working in the Vecchio group.  Md Shafkat Bin Hoque, Jeffrey L. Braun, and Professor Patrick E. Hopkins are our collaborators at University of Virginia.
