Mission of JSOE
The Mission of the Jacobs School of Engineering (JSOE) is directly tied to the mission of UCSD and to its own constituent needs:
- Educate tomorrow's technology leaders

- Transfer discoveries to ensure societal benefit and economic prosperity
Educational Objectives
To meet these ideals, the mission of the Chemical Engineering Program is to provide the next generation of chemical engineers with an excellent and innovative chemical engineering education. The Chemical Engineering Program Educational Objectives are:
- To provide chemical engineering students with a strong technical education and communication skills that will enable them to have successful careers in a wide range of industrial and professional environments and to prepare them for higher education.
- To prepare chemical engineering students for rapidly changing technological environments with the core knowledge central to multidisciplinary development and personal improvement throughout their professional careers.
- To instill in chemical engineering students with a strong sense of humanistic values and professionalism such that they can behave ethically and knowledgeably regarding technological impact in societal issues.
Program Outcomes
The Chemical Engineering Program Outcomes are:- An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering to chemical engineering problems. (a)
- An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data. (b)
- An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs. (c)
- An ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams. (d)
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems. (e)
- An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility. (f)
- An ability to communicate effectively with written, oral, and visual means. (g)
- The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context. (h)
- A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning. (i)
