NanoEngineering Department Chair and Professor, Shaochen Chen and his research lab worked together with the University of Cambridge to 3D print coral-inspired structures that are capable of growing dense populations of microscopic algae. This advancement could lead to the development of more efficient bioreactors for producing algae-based biofuels, and new techniques to repair and restore coral reefs. The study was in Nature Communications.
