Nanocrystals Emit Light By Efficiently Tunneling Electrons

Researchers working in the lab of NanoEngineering professor, Dr. Andrea Tao, developed a nano-sized device made out of silver crystals that emits light by "tunneling" electrons through a barrier. Working closely with UC San Diego's Dr. Zhaowei Liu, the researchers are closer to exploring a new way to generate ultra-compact light sources.  The work was published in Nature Photonics.
