Congratulations to NanoEngineering Graduate Student, Mr. Jacob Schimelman, who was recently awarded the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship! This prestigious fellowship was instituted to help ensure the vitality and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce of the United States. Mr. Schimelman is passionate about developing a tissue-engineering scaffold to guide functional recovery after spinal cord injury. As a member of Dr. Shaochen Chen's group, he plans to use the group's state-of-the-art bioprinting system to explore how manipulating the nano- and micro-scale features of a 3D-printed, cell-laden hydrogel scaffold will affect the regeneration of neural tissue after injury. Mr. Schimelman is grateful to have received the NSF Fellowship, as it guarantees that he will be able to focus on this important work.
